Get Ready For Your Replacement Windows

If you’ve decided to get replacement windows for your Golden, CO home, you probably can’t wait to have them installed. While you may want them to be installed right away, there are a few things you need to do first to prepare your home for the installation. While a window replacement isn’t a big job, it does require a little bit of prep work like:

  1. Schedule CarefullyThink about you and your family’s daily routine and how you use the parts of your home that will be taken out of commission during replacement vinyl windows installation. Try to schedule the replacement when it will least disrupt your routine, especially since it’s potentially dangerous to have children or pets around the construction. On average, a window installation takes from 1 to 2 days. However, climate, weather, number of windows, type of windows and other variables can make your installation take more or less time. Have a conversation with your window contractor to get a good estimate of how long your project will take so you can schedule it well.
  2. Allow For Full Access – The window contractors will need full access to the rooms and outdoor areas that have the windows that are being replaced. They will be carrying out old windows, bringing in new windows and working with large tools so they need plenty of space. Get rid of anything that could block their way, and turn off any security systems that could go off during the work. Clear paths both in and outside, this will make the work go faster.
  3. Cover and Clear: As with any home improvement project, there will be some debris, dust and dirt. It’s important to remove any furniture, valuables, or decoration items from the area surrounding the new windows. If you can’t move something, be it a big couch or a built in, be sure to cover it up with a sheet or drop cloth. It’s also important to remove all window dressings and security sensors as they will get in the way of the work and potentially be damaged. If you’re doing your windows replacement around a holiday, don’t forget to take down any wreaths or other outdoor decorations.
  4. Be Ready For Mess– While windows replacements might not make as big of a mess as other home improvement projects, you should expect some! Taking out old windows and installing replacement vinyl windows means lots of scraping, gluing, sanding, drywall patching and even painting, so you’re sure to see wet paint and dry paint as well as dust on the floors, windows, surrounding furniture and even outside.

Getting your home ready for replacement windows isn’t too hard. All it takes is a little planning and some minimal preparation and you’ll have new windows in no time at all.
